KU's Thorson To Play In NFLPA All-Star Game

Jan. 20, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior offensive lineman Brad Thorson has been selected to play in the NFL Players Association Game, which will take place in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 5. The game was formerly known as the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game.

Thorson, who finished his KU career this past season, is listed as an offensive guard and center for the contest. Thorson will play for the Nation team. In 2009 current San Diego Charger and former Jayhawk James Holt was a participant in the game.

“The pressure is on,” Thorson said. “It has been a long time since I have been on the field. It is exciting to get an opportunity to prove myself again. It should be a lot of fun going down to San Antonio and competing with some great senior prospects.”

Thorson, a 6-5, 310-pounder from Mequon, Wis., had success on and off the field at Kansas. On the field he started 24 consecutive games at both center and guard and was named the team’s top offensive lineman by the KU coaches after his junior season. As a senior he was named the Jayhawks’ offensive player of the week vs. Nebraska.

Off the field, Thorson was an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee, a Big 12 Community of Champions winner, an Academic all-District first team selection and a two-time academic All-Big 12 honoree.

Most recently Thorson was a panelist at the NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 12. He was on a four-person panel, which included a college athletic director, a college president and an NCAA legal team member.
