Jayhawks Prepare for Rival Triangle

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas track and field teams will compete in the Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri Triangular Saturday (Jan. 22) at Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan. The three rival universities will be competing for “The Jug,” which is the traveling trophy awarded to the winning school. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks are coming off an impressive meet at the Arkansas Invitational. KU recorded three NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the meet. Freshman Ekaterina Sultanova broke the school record as she won the pole vault with a best effort of 13-7.25. Senior teammate Amy Linnen also provisionally qualified in the event with a mark of 12-11.50. Senior Brooklyn Hann tied her own school record and provisionally qualified in the triple jump with a jump of 42-3.25.

On the men’s side, junior Sheldon Battle took first place in the weight throw with a best toss of 61-00.25. In the 60-meter dash, former Jayhawk great Leo Bookman won the event, running for Team Nike with a time of 6.82. Jayhawk junior Aaron Thompson finished second in the event with a personal best time of 6.93.
