Kansas Softball Opens Spring Practice

Jan. 21, 2005

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas softball team officially opened spring practice outdoors this week in preparation for its season-opening tournament at the Arizona Pepsi Classic Feb. 4-6. The Jayhawks concluded Mini Camp Wednesday and opened the Spring semester of classes and practice Thursday.

The team reported back to campus Jan. 14 and met for a fun-filled night of dinner and bowling. Mini Camp opened Jan. 15 with skills specialist Laurie Soltman. In between sessions, the Jayhawks conditioned with strength coach Darric Honnold while the pitchers and catchers put in their extra work as well.

KU then took some time out Tuesday for `Late Nite With KU Softball,’ an annual fun event that featured skits from each class.

“I am very impressed with the way our team has been training since they arrived back on campus this spring,” head coach Tracy Bunge noted. “They have been working extremely hard and have accomplished a great deal in Mini Camp. We are really excited about opening our season in just two weeks and look forward to having many more fulfilling practices before we leave for Arizona.”

Kansas opens its season Feb. 4 against Oklahoma State and Arizona at the Pepsi Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The Jayhawks return 10 letterwinners including seven starters and welcome four newcomers to the squad in 2005.
