LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas baseball team continued to maintain its high academic standards during the past fall semester by placing a program-high 17 student-athletes on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and recording a new high team GPA.

Members of the team who achieved the individual honors were Derek Bailey, Matt Baty, Mike Bessolo, Don Czyz, Michael Dudley, Justin Ellrich, Nick Founce, Carter Holt, Matt Lane, Erik Morrison, Trey Randa, Scott Sharpe, Andy Scholl, Clint Schambach, Michael Fitch, Brock Simpson and A.J. Van Slyke.

Ellrich and Faunce both earned special status by collecting perfect 4.0 grade point averages during the semester.

In addition to posting a record number on the list, the Jayhawks recorded a team-GPA of 2.83, to set a new program benchmark in that category.

“I would like to congratulate my players on a tremendous accomplishment,” said head coach Ritch Price. “One of our goals as a team is to be successful not only on the baseball field, but in the classroom as well. To post the highest team GPA in school history and to have 17 student-athletes on the AD Honor Roll is big time!

“On behalf of our entire program, I would like to thank and congratulate our academic advisor, Glen Quick. His leadership, enthusiasm and passion for academic directly led to our team’s success this fall.”
