<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Lawrence, Kan. – For the second time in six days, Anschutz Pavilion will play host to another home meet for the University of Kansas track and field teams. On Friday, the Jayhawk Classic will be the final home indoor meet of the season for KU.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawk Classic is scheduled to begin with the women’s weight throw at 9 a.m. Central standard time. Running events start with the women’s 3,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m. The meet concludes with the men’s 3,200-meter relay at 7:15 p.m.

The 11th-ranked Kansas men and the 27th-ranked Kansas women will compete against a 19-team field that consists of familiar foes WichitaState and UMKC. Each of those teams participated against the Jayhawks in Anschutz Pavilion at the Kansas Invitational on Jan. 19.

The Jayhawks saw much success at the Kansas Invitational. KU claimed a total of 11 event titles while four athletes earned postseason marks. In the first three meets of the season, five Jayhawks have earned postseason marks in six events.

Junior Nickesha Anderson has set NCAA provisional marks in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, senior Crystal Manning set her mark in the triple jump, while senior Kate Sultanova (pole vault) and junior Zlata Tarasova (weight throw) have also earned potential spots in the NCAA Championships in their respective events. Sophomore Jordan Scott (pole vault) is the first on the men’s team to provisionally qualify.

The Big 12 Showcase will be covering much of the Jayhawk Classic on Friday. The Kansas track and field team and athletes will be featured on an upcoming program. “Big 12 Showcase” is the official TV-magazine show of the Big 12 Conference, seen nationally on FSN. In the Big 12 regions, they can be seen on Friday’s and Saturday’s. Check your local listings.
