Jayhawks Lead Wire-to-Wire to Defeat Baylor, 82-56

In a game it led by as many as 28 points, the University of Kansas men’s basketball team (17-3, 4-1) defeated Baylor (11-8, 1-5), 82-56, Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. Sophomore Brandon Rush led KU with 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds while sophomore Julian Wright added 16 points and six boards.

Freshman Sherron Collins was the Jayhawks’ other double-digit scorer, pouring in 13 points off the bench, including three three-pointers.

Three other Jayhawks added at least eight points. Junior Russell Robinson scored nine points and dished out four assists. Sophomore guard Mario Chalmers added nine points, including two three-pointers, and freshman Darrell Arthur scored eight points off the bench.

The Jayhawks shot 50 percent both from the field (29-of-58) and from beyond the three-point arc (8-of-16) for the game. The Jayhawk defense continually stymied Baylor’s offense, limiting the Bears to just 30 percent shooting from the field (20-of-66) and 18 percent from three-point land (4-of-22) in the contest.

Kansas took a 40-18 lead into halftime as Wright and Rush each had nine points and the team shot 64 percent from the field. The Jayhawks jumped out to a 22-5 lead in the first half. KU’s defense limited Baylor to 2-of-19 shooting (11 percent) during the run. A highlight of the frame came when Rush emphatically flushed a missed three-pointer to lengthen the lead to 27-7.

The Jayhawks return home to Allen Fieldhouse Saturday to take on Colorado. Tip-off is slated for 12:45 p.m. and the game is set to air on ESPN Plus.
