Kansas (10-3) swimming and diving defeated South Dakota, 197-91, and Northern Iowa, 191-87, Saturday afternoon at Robinson Natatorium in a double-dual. The University of Kansas was once again led by Maria Mayrovich who earned four first-place finishes and set a new pool record in the 100 yard freestyle.

KU was victorious in all but one event, despite experimenting with several Jayhawks in events that are not considered their specialty.

Kansas opened the meet with an impressive 12.31 second victory in the 400 yard medley relay. KU’s relay team, consisting of, Iuliia Kuzhil, Danielle Herrmann, Ashley Leidigh and Mayrovich, touched the wall in a time of 3:47.42.

KU’s diving team swept the South Dakota diving team in both the 1 meter and 3 meter competitions. Erin Mertz won the 3 meter with a score of 315.75, and Hannah McMacken had a career-best 301.35 score in the same event. Meghan Proehl won the 1 meter competition with a career-best score of 290.10.

Mayrovich continued her hot streak by winning the 100 yard freestyle in a Robinson Natatorium record time of 50.04. She also claimed the top spot in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.83.

Herrmann continued her winning ways with three victories in the 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard backstroke and 200 yard IM.

Winning the 200 yard butterfly and breaststroke was sophomore Joy Bunting. Bunting touched the wall in a time of 2:06.90 for the 200 yard butterfly and in a time of 2:25.24 for the 200 yard breaststroke.

Freshman Shannon Garlie took the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.44. Sophomore Brittany Potter won the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 58.37.

Sophomore Amanda Maez won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 24.14, narrowly out-touching Emily Lanteigne by 0.15 seconds. Lanteigne would be victorious in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.32.

Kansas elected to exhibition its non-first place points in the events 11 through 15, and all scores in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Northern Iowa defeated South Dakota, 160-127.

The Jayhawks will be back in action for a two-day dual meet against Iowa State on Friday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. Following the Senior Day meet against ISU, KU will prepare for the Big 12 Championships on Feb. 25-28 in Columbia, Mo.
