Lawrence, Kan. –

The University of Kansas track and field teams head to the Sonoran Desert Friday and Saturday to compete in the Dan DeHart Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Jayhawk throwers, jumpers and sprinters will compete in the event which features 16 other Division I programs, including Big 12 rivals Kansas State, Texas and Texas Tech.

Field events will begin at 8 p.m. Friday evening with track events following at 8:20 p.m. Saturday the field events resume at noon and the first track event starts at 12:30 p.m. The convention center is a 200-meter oval with 60-degree banked turns and has been recognized as one of the best indoor track and field facilities in the nation.

At last weekend’s Jayhawk Invitational, the Jayhawks dominated competition, winning 16 different events. Junior Kate Sultanova established a new Anschutz Pavilion women’s pole vault record by clearing a winning height of 13-03.50. Freshman Britany Parker finished close on her heels, placing second with a vault of 13-01.50. Both women earned NCAA provisional marks for their performances.

In other results, freshman pole vaulter Jordan Scott also earned a NCAA provisional mark with his winning vault of 17-00.75. Junior Ashley Brown set a new Anschutz Pavilion facility record in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing her preliminary heat in a time of 8.48 seconds, just .05 off a NCAA provisional mark. Brown would go on to win the event in the finals.

With their performances, several Jayhawks have firmly established themselves on the Big 12 Indoor Performance Chart. Sultanova and Parker rank first and second, respectively, in the women’s pole vault and Scott is tied for first in the men’s rankings. Brown currently has the third-fastest time in the 60 meter hurdles and junior Egor Agafonov, the defending Big 12 champion in the weight throw, ranks first in the event with a season-best toss of 68-06.50 feet. In all, 11 different Jayhawks rank in the top five in the Big 12 conference in their respective events.
