Jan. 25, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior breaststroker Danielle Herrmann will lead the KU swimming and diving team to Columbia, Mo., Saturday for an 11 a.m. (CST) match-up with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kansas improved to 5-2 (1-1 Big 12) after defeating Big 12 foe Nebraska Jan. 19. The Jayhawks dominated the Huskers, 197-99, and won every race of the 16-event dual meet.

Both the KU and Iowa teams will head to Columbia for the competition this weekend. While Kansas will only compete against Iowa, the Hawkeyes will compete against both the Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers. KU last saw Iowa in swimming and diving action Nov. 4, 2005, in Lawrence when it also took part in a double-dual between Missouri State and Iowa. The then No. 24 Jayhawks were victorious, winning 175.5-120.5.

“We’re looking forward to getting on the road and competing against Iowa at the Mizzou pool,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “It’s a very good facility and our athletes really enjoy racing in Columbia. Iowa had a solid meet last week and looks to be finding its form. It will be a great challenge.”

Following the dual with Iowa, KU will have only one more match-up before heading to the 2008 Big 12 Conference Championships in Austin, Texas. The Jayhawks will face Iowa State at 6 p.m. (CST), Feb. 8, in Ames, Iowa.
