Jan. 26, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Eight Kansas Athletics squads recorded grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher during the Fall 2010 semester, Interim Athletics Director Sean Lester announced Friday.

The women’s golf team led the way with a grade-point average of 3.48, nearly matching the Kansas Athletics-record 3.62 the team achieved the previous semester. Volleyball finished a close second at 3.42.

Men’s golf finished third at 3.26, followed by rowing and swimming and diving (3.21), women’s track and field (3.08), tennis (3.01) and the spirit squad with an even 3.0.

Two hundred seventy one student-athletes (52 percent of students on active rosters) earned spots on the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll by achieving a 3.0 GPA or better, including 33 who posted a 4.0.

“We are proud of the efforts of these student-athletes, who represent the University of Kansas so well,” Lester said. “We are indebted to KU’s terrific faculty and to our Williams Educational Fund donors, whose generosity enables us to provide state-of-the-art academic facilities and a first-rate student-athlete support staff, led for so many years by Paul Buskirk. The dedication of all these individuals makes this success possible.”

Members of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll will be honored during halftime of the men’s basketball game Feb. 21 vs. Oklahoma State.
