Jan. 28, 2005

Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Kansas tennis team will host the No. 25 BYU Cougars on January 29 in Overland Park. The match begins at 5 p.m. and will be held at the Overland Park Racquet Club.

Kansas enters the dual against BYU with a 1-0 record after the `Hawks edged Illinois State on January 22. The team needed victories in its final three matches from Ashley Filberth, Luiza Loureiro and Stephanie Smith to secure the 4-3 win over the Redbirds.

“We are excited to play again after winning our first match, but BYU will be a tough challenge and we will needed to compete at a very high level,” head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “This is our first regional matchup and we worked really hard in practice this week, so hopefully we can come out with a victory.”

Last season the Jayhawks and Cougars met in Provo, Utah, on Feb. 13, 2004. The `Hawks were unable to score any points in that meeting and were swept by BYU, 7-0.

Following the match against BYU, the Jayhawks will head to Oxford, Miss., for a match against Mississippi on February 4.
