Jayhawks Win at Iowa State 95-85

AMES, Iowa – Kansas claimed its third Big 12 road victory with a 95-85 win at Iowa State here Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Mario Chalmers scored 21 points and Brandon Rush added 20 to lead Kansas to its 13th win of the season. With the victory the Jayhawks improved to 13-6 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 play. Iowa State dropped to 13-7, 3-4.

For the fourth straight game Kansas shot better than 50 percent from the field. KU shot 58 percent and held Iowa State to 37.7 percent.

Kansas used solid defense and aggressive play in building a 12-point lead – 27-15 – in the first 13 minutes of the game. Iowa State then went on a run of its own and cut the lead to 36-35 which made the Hilton Coliseum sellout of 14,092 have something to cheer about.

With Kansas up 48-45, the Jayhawks took over the second half with a 14-1 run to make the score 62-46 with 11:45 to play. The Jayhawks were 13-for-14 from the free throw line in the final five minutes as they claimed their third league road win of the season.

Chalmers led all scorers with 21 points, while Rush recorded his second double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Russell Robinson added 18 points and sophomore Darnell Jackson and freshman Julian Wright scored 13 each in the win.

Kansas will next play host to Texas Tech on Big Monday. The game will air on ESPN2 with an 8 p.m. (Central) tip.
