Postgame Quotes
Kansas 86, Texas Tech 52
January 30, 2006

Head Coach Bill Self
On the game:

“We had a good week. We played well. We shot the ball well. We didn’t shoot well from the perimeter in the first half, but the second half was better. We are getting better. Everyone had a chance to contribute tonight. We are nowhere close to where we can be but I think we are building every day.”

On starting 1-2 in the Big 12:
“We were discouraged. We weren’t discouraged because we were 1-2, we were discouraged by how we lost the two games (Kansas State and Missouri). You are not going to see many teams that go unbeaten or with one loss in this league. The competition is too stiff and the home court means too much. The guys are picking it up and seem to be playing better together.”

Sophomore guard Russell Robinson
On his performance:

“I was able to get alot of the shots that I wanted, but they did not go down for me. I tried to contribute in other ways; I had six assists. The same went for Mario. He did not have the best game, but he still did all that he could to get involved.”

On the guards:
“It’s our (Robinson’s and Chalmers’) job to get the ball inside. We did a good job today of getting the ball inside and our big guys did their job by cleaning up rebounds and giving us easy buckets. We did a good job defensively, which helped on the offensive end.”

Sophomore center Sasha Kaun
On the inside game:

“The good thing about our team is that we have such a talented group; anyone can contribute at any time. One game it may be the guards, and the next it’s the big guys. The inside play tonight was defiinitely good for my confidence.”

On playing against Bob Knight’s team:
“It was a really good win. Winning is always great, but when you play against a coach who is a legend, the feeling is just that much better.”

Head Coach Bob Knight
On the game:

“We just got beat by a much, much better team. They played very well. We just were never really able to do much with them. This is a very simple thing; they are a much better team than we are.”

On Kansas:
“They have good personnel. I think that they are really well coached. They’ve got a really quick pace to the way they play, which is good. Not just up and down the floor, but in the half court. They are aggressive. This is a very good team. When it plays well, it is very good, and I think it played well tonight.”

On Kansas’ size:
“They got 55 rebounds, and we got 28. Quickness is more important to them. Their big kids are mobile. They move well. It is a team that has been coached very well and they get the most out of themselves. There is a lot to get there.”
