Husker Invitational Awaits Track and Field

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following their final home meet of the season, the University of Kansas track and field teams will face some stiff competition this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. for the 33rd Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
The two-day event begins with multi-events at noon (Central standard time) on Friday. Running events will begin at 6 p.m. while field events open at 5 p.m. The first day of competition will conclude with the men’s 5,000-meter run at 8:20 p.m. On Saturday, multi-events start at 10 a.m., while running events begin at 1:45 p.m. and field events at 2 p.m. The final event of the meet, the men’s 3,200-meter relay, is scheduled for 6:41 p.m.
The Kansas women, ranked 18th in the nation in the latest USTFCCCA poll will be joined by #13 Baylor, #19 Kansas State, #20 Arizona and #24 Florida State. The men will also face four ranked opponents in #6 Nebraska, #8 Baylor, #12 Arizona and #22 Florida State. Fellow Big 12 foe Iowa State is also included in the 19-team field.
Many Jayhawks have seen previous success at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Senior Egor Agafonov was named the Male Athlete of the Meet in 2007 after throwing for a meet record and NCAA automatic qualifying distance of 22.57 meters (74-00.75 ft) in the weight throw. Seniors Crystal Manning, Kate Sultanova and Colby Wissel also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the 2007 Husker Invitational by winning the women’s triple jump, women’s pole vault and men’s 3,000-meter run, respectively.
