Kansas Postgame Quotes
Texas Tech 66, Kansas 65
January 31, 2007

Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson
On the end of the game:
“When we are down seven, we said to hang in there and if we do not score here, then get a stop. We got a couple of good looks, Danielle (McCray) hit a three, got to the rim, and I am proud of the kids to come back from seven when there is not a lot on the clock. At the end there, you just have to be more aggressive, and get it up off the glass. I am yelling to Sharita (Smith) to tip in a miss. Shaq (Mosley) got to the rim most of the evening. You just want to be able to get in the paint, get something, get a foul, get to the free-throw line and win it at the free-throw line. But, we don’t do that. We can’t come out on the right end to win.”

On recovering from being down seven in the last five minutes:
“We got a couple defensive stops, got some opportunities in transition and did a much better job there. You have to be able to close out and finish. On those two possessions, we have to be able to get to the free-throw line and get a bucket off of one of those two, it cannot be a turnover and an elbow pull-up jumper. We have to stay aggressive and play not to lose, and not be that cautious. Throw caution at the wind and get it up off the glass and let a rebounder tip it in, let Taylor (McIntosh) go get it and let Danielle (McCray) go get it. We did not execute down the stretch, but we gave ourselves a chance at the five minute mark down to get it to a one possession basketball game.”

On Shaquina Mosley one rebound shy of a triple-double:
“She does a great job, pushes in transition and plays a lot of minutes. She has shown poise and done a good job, and that is important for us. Like at Nebraska, that was the best first half she has had here. We just need some other kids to step up and I thought LaChelda (Jacobs) was aggressive. Those young kids just have to be able to step up. Kelly (Kohn) I thought let go a bit, Taylor was big in the paint, but we still need some more if it is going to be that close.”

On drawing key charges:
“Danielle does a great job of sliding over and gets her feet almost out of the lane. That is what we talked about, help get it out of the lane and make or make her make a pass. She has four to do that. She is a great position defensively, and does a great job and is a momentum changer. That is what we have been trying to get. Before that it would have been a lay-up and a three-point play. We take the momentum and slide over there and take a charge, but then we are still a possession away.”

On freshmen playing with confidence:
“We keep coming to practice everyday to win a basketball game. No one is giving in and no one is hanging their head. We just have to keep working and pushing here to come away with the W.”

Kansas Player Quotes
Senior guard Shaquina Mosley
On the last play of the game:
“I thought about going to the hoop, but I pulled back because I bobbled the ball before I shot it and the last time that I did that I turned it over. I should have gone to the rim.”

On her stat-line:
“I will remember the loss a lot more than how well I played. The stats don’t really mean that much to me. I would rather get a win.”

On the game:
“We get tired but we just have to push through that. I tried to get the ball up the court as fast as I can and create uncontested shots. I tried to get to the lane, draw a foul, and catch the defense when they are not paying attention.”

Junior forward Taylor McIntosh
On her performance:
“I am feeling a lot more confident on offense, especially when I can run down in transition; that is by far the easiest scenario for me to score. Some of the post players may be bigger than me, but I feel that I can out run them.”

On Shaquina Mosley:
“She is a senior so she should step up. She has been doing a good job, far better than she was doing at this point last year.”

Freshman forward Danille McCray
On Kansas’ progress:
“Every game Coach Bonnie comes into the locker room and says keep your head up. We need to win one of these games. We are tired of hearing we almost did it; we just need to get one. We played a great first half. We get so close to the end and it just wasn’t enough.”

Texas Tech Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On the game:
“It seems like we do not always make things easy, but we seem to find a way. You have to give credit to our kids for sticking together and fighting. I’m proud of them. You have to give Kansas a lot of credit. They are going through a lot of youthfulness. They are going to be fine. I thought they played their hearts out and we played our hearts out, but we were able to find a point more down the stretch.”

On challenging the team at the half:
“I did not like anything about the effort, the energy and the presence. We were not playing the kind of basketball that I’m about or our staff is about. We need to play with more personality and energy. We were just really sluggish in that first half.”

On Kansas Senior Guard Shaquina Mosley:
“She is so talented and she wants the ball at crucial times, which is something that you are born with. That is something hard to teach. I love that about her and I think she has such a spirit and so much character about her.”

On Kansas Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson:
“Bonnie has always been one of my favorite people in the business. Nobody works harder than her and her staff and does things more the right way. The future here is incredibly bright. There is no question in my mind that she is going to have great success, but we do not want a part of a lot of that, but we wish her well. There is no doubt in my mind that they are going to grow up, but they have to grow up quick and this is not a league for that to happen. It is only a matter of time.”

Senior Forward Alesha Robertson
On the game:
“It feels awesome. I think this is the position that we want to be in. Getting this win was big today and I think Saturday’s game will be big too. I think we have to feed off of tonight’s game and learn from our mistakes to go to Colorado to get a win.”

Freshman Guard Jordan Murphree
On the game:
“Today was a good win, but it was not pretty. We did not come out with a lot of energy that we were supposed to, but it is good that we could still be in the top four (of the Big 12 Conference) if we get this win at Colorado.”
