Kansas Falls 73-60 at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas–Danielle McCray scored 24 points, but the Kansas women’s basketball team was unable to get the victory against #7 Texas A&M on Saturday in Reed Arena. McCray’s 24 points marked her fourth straight game with at least 20 and her ninth of the season.

The loss drops KU to 12-7 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play. Texas A&M improved to 17-3 on the season and 5-2 in the league.

The Jayhawks led by as many as seven in the second half, but Texas A&M rallied to take a 53-51 lead on a Danielle Gant jumper with 7:21 to play in the game. The Aggies would push the lead to 6 after three consecutive Kansas turnovers.

Gant finished the game with 21 points, 17 in the second half. She helped to spur a 34 to 30 Aggie scoring advantage in the paint.

McCray ended a 23-8 Texas A&M run with a three pointer, but the Jayhawks continued to turnover the ball registering 26 for the game and 14 in the second half.

Junior LaChelda Jacobs had 12 points and four assists. McCray added seven rebounds.

Despite 12 first half turnovers, the Jayhawks led 35-29 at halftime. Kansas shot 64 percent from the field in the first half to the Aggies 44 percent. The Jayhawks also held a 15-9 rebound advantage in the first period.

McCray led all scorers at the half with 10 points off 4-of-9 shooting. Sophomore Kyrsten Boogaard and Jacobs added eight a piece.

The contest marked the return of junior Sade Morris, who had 11 points in 40 minutes of action. Morris missed the previous two games due to a concussion sustained against Texas Tech on January 17.

Kansas will return home to face Colorado on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse. The game can be seen on Metro Sports.
