KU Falls to Syracuse, 4-3

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The University of Kansas tennis team dropped a non-conference tilt to Syracuse, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C. KU falls to 1-4 on the season, while Syracuse improves to 1-1.

Kansas opened doubles play by getting an 8-5 win from its No. 1 tandem of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath. KU lost the No. 2 contest and had to forfeit the No. 3 match because of injuries to freshman Ksenia Bukina and junior Stephanie Smith, resulting in Syracuse taking the doubles point.

With the victory, Avdeeva and Horvath are now a perfect 5-0 in doubles play this spring.

The Jayhawks then got singles wins from freshman Kunigunda Dorn in the No. 2 position, Horvath in the No. 3 spot and junior Lauren Hommell in the No. 4 match. However, KU lost the No. 1 and No. 5 contests and were forced to surrender the No. 6 point to the Orange, securing the win for SU.

Kansas will take to the courts again on Sunday when it faces No. 19 Wake Forest. The dual is set to start at noon in Winston-Salem.
