The Jayhawks are coming off a 1-0 start for the second-consecutive season after beating Drake 6-1 in Des Moines, Iowa last Saturday.

KU is led by sophomore Ekaterina Morozova, a Togliatte, Russia native who started the season 1-0 in a straight-set defeat of Drake’s Gabriela Demos.

Senior Kunigunda Dorn, junior Maria Martinez, sophomore Erin Wilbert and freshman Victoria Khanevskaya also posted wins in singles play on Saturday.

The Irish are led by sophomore Kristy Frilling, who is currently ranked No. 30 in the country according to the ITA College Tennis Rankings. As a doubles team, Frilling and senior Kali Krisik are ranked at the No. 12 spot.

Notre Dame leads the series with Kansas 7-3, with six of the matchups taking place in Lawrence. The last time the teams met, the Fighting Irish beat the Jayhawks 7-0 on Feb. 5, 2001 in Lawrence.

“We’re trying to focus on the fact that anyone is beatable on any given day,” said head coach Amy Hall-Holt. “Our goal is to get out and perform at a high level. If we can get out there, compete and play hard, then we can play to win. We’re trying to focus on beating the girl on the other side of the net.”

KU will continue its home series when it hosts UMKC next Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. at First Serve Tennis Center.
