LINCOLN, Neb. –

Day one of action at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., is complete. Day two of the invite will showcase 36 events, including the conclusion of the heptathlon.

Junior thrower Sheldon Battleimproved on his NCAA provisional mark with a personal best throw of 67-10.75 as he finished third in the weight throw. That effort is good for second on KU’s all-time list. Battle improved on his best mark of 67-7.50.

The Jayhawks had three of the top five finishers in the 5,000 meter run. Senior D.J. Hilding placed second in the event with a time of 14:53.23, while sophomore Tyler Kelly finished fourth (14:57.92) and junior Matt French placed fifth (14:59.14).

Junior Charisse Bacchus competed in the pentathlon for KU. She placed first in the long jump with a season-best 19-06.00 effort.

The second day of competition will begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s hepathlon 60 meter hurdles and will conclude at 6:30 p.m. with the men’s 4×400 meter relay.
