Jayhawk Distance Runners Head to Notre Dame

Feb. 4, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Four members of the Kansas track team will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6, while the rest of the KU squad competes at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.

Lauren Bonds, Amanda Miller, Kara Windisch and Rebeka Stowe will have a chance to race against some of the nation’s top runners from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota and the host school, Notre Dame. The Jayhawks will also see conference foe Missouri at the event, which will be a good test of their strength in the mid-distance/distance events within the Big 12.

Miller and Windisch will run the 3,000 meters at 9:00 a.m., while Bonds and Stowe are entered in the mile at 11:10 a.m. Bonds currently holds the Kansas school record in both events. She set the mile record of 4:43.74 last season, and broke the 3,000-meter record just a week ago at the Jayhawk Classic, after clocking in at 9:30.9 (h).

Stowe has recorded a season-best mile time of 4:58.23, while Miller and Windisch have both set career bests this season in the 3,000 meters, with times of 9:52.73 and 9:53.26, respectively.
