Kansas, Iowa State Close After Day One in Ames

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas swimming and diving leads Iowa State 79-71 Friday, after the first day of the weekend dual. The Jayhawks (8-4) and Cyclones (8-3) each won four events, keeping the competition close heading into tomorrow’s finish.

Senior Meghan Proehl recorded another impressive score in the one-meter dive, placing first with 295.12 points in the finals. The score by the diver from San Diego, Calif., meets NCAA qualifying standards.

Junior Iuliia Kuzhil took first in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.16, defeating Iowa State’s Nan Liu by just .19 seconds. Senior Emily Lanteigne and freshman Rebecca Swank also scored victories, winning the 150-yard and the 800-yard freestyle events, respectively.

KU will conclude their meet against Iowa State tomorrow in Ames, Iowa. The competition is set to begin at 10 a.m.
