Mississippi State Defeats Kansas, 7-0

Starkville, Miss. – The University of Kansas tennis team was defeated by the No. 72 Mississippi State Lady Bulldog’s, 7-0, Sunday, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center, in Starkville, Miss. The loss drops the `Hawks to 1-3 on the season.

The Jayhawks dropped three doubles matches to give the Lady Bulldog’s an early 1-0 advantage. The duo of juniors Christine Skoda and Luiza Loureiro lost, 8-5, to Mississippi State’s Hayley Rudman and Tarryn Rudman.

In singles action, freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva was downed by No. 28 Zsuzsanna Fodor, 6-3, 6-2. Fellow freshman Stephanie Smith started off hot against MSU’s Renee Joseph, but ended up getting edged, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0. Skoda lost a tough match to Anastasia Kugakolova, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Kansas is next in action on Sunday, Feb. 13, against Texas. The home dual will be held in Overland Park, Kan., and will begin at 10 a.m.
