Feb. 6, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Team co-captains Lauren Bonfe and Danielle Herrmann will lead the University of Kansas swimming and diving team to Iowa State University Friday on its quest for a final Big 12 victory before heading to the conference championships at the end of February. The Jayhawks moved to 6-2 overall after defeating the Iowa Hawkeyes, 144-89, on Jan. 26.

Herrmann and junior Maria Mayrovich recorded three first-place finishes each, two individual and one relay, in the victory over Iowa. Divers Hannah McMacken, Erin Mertz and Jenny Roberts led Kansas in diving action, Mertz and McMacken with a one-two finish on the one-meter board and Roberts with a victory in the three-meter competition. KU will carry its momentum to Ames for its last dual meet of the 2007-08 season, and looks to improve to 2-1 in Big 12 dual meet action.

Scouting the Cyclones

Under 11th-season head coach Duane Sorenson, the Cyclones are 5-3 in dual meet action this season. Kansas and Iowa State share wins over three mutual opponents, Northern Iowa, Iowa and Nebraska-Omaha. Kansas holds a Big 12 win over Nebraska, a dual meet that Iowa State dropped against the Huskers Feb. 2. Additionally, conference rival Missouri topped both the Cyclones and Jayhawks in Big 12 dual meet action.

The Jayhawks and Cyclones will kick-off the two-day competition at 6 p.m. Friday and resume at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Results following both days of competition can be found on www.kuathletics.com.
