On how it feels to start the season with two wins:

“To get two wins on the first day really gets the ball rolling in the right direction for this team. Momentum is going to be a big part of what we do this year. It was exciting for me to hear the players talk about some of the things we’ve been doing in practice and things we, the coaches, have talked about in practice. It’s really nice to see things transform on the field.”

On the team’s base running:

“Our base running potentially won us both games. I thought we had some kids doing a really good job of taking an extra base. We’re really thinking about and doing everything we can do to take that extra base. I think, especially in the second game, that that was the biggest reason we won. Sara Ramirez had a big time heads up play where the [NC State] first basemen had taken herself out of the play, but Ramirez kept on running and it turned into the tying run for us. Stevie [Crisosto] had two great slides at home plate because she was aggressive in her base running.”

On the team’s offensive showing:

“We had some players that have started out really well offensively for us and that have put the ball in play consistently. Brittany Hile and Amanda Jobe got off to a great start as well as a couple of other players who’s stats maybe do not show it. Betsy Wilson had a solid first day hitting the ball well. She did some good things offensively.”

On the team’s pitching:

“The coahing staff saw some good innings from [Val] George and we saw [Allie] <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Clark come in and do a good job in relief. [Sarah] Vertelka battled and did exactly what we asked her to do when we were down and that was to shut down NC State and allow our team to get back into the game. I thought our pitching staff did exactly what we have been talking about which was keep us in the ball game and let the offense win it and today, the offense won it.”
