UCF postgame quotes:

On the game against UCF:

“I think the most frustrating thing about the UCF game was that we played a really good first game against <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>IllinoisState but we came out against UCF and did not perform defensively. We had three errors and four walks against UCF and you can’t give good teams freebies like that. We got ourselves down and going against a really good pitcher just made things tougher for us. Their [UCF] pitcher didn’t give us much to hit during the middle of the game. I think she [UCF pitcher] did a really good job for them.”

On freshman pitcher Allie Clark:

“I thought Allie Clark struggled a little bit with her consistency but had a decent game for her first start. She did enough to keep us in the game. I think Allie has a really, really bright future with us. This was a tough loss for her but also a good learning experience.”

Illinois State postgame quotes:

On sophomore pitcher Sarah Vertelka:

“I am really pleased at what we are getting out of Sarah Vertelka. She is being smart, she is getting tough outs in tough situations and she is out there really battling for us. IllinoisState has a really good offensive ball team, so shutting them down speaks volumes to what she can do and what she did do today.”

On the team’s offensive output:

“Brittany Hile has come out and swung the bat really well for a freshman and has played extremely solid behind the plate. Amanda Jobe continues to be on the ball for us. Val Chapple is performing like we expected her to all along. her maturity is really showing and we’re excited in the fact that she has started the season doing really well because in the past she hasn’t always come out strong in the beginning of the season.”
