Kansas Sweeps Border Showdown, 92-74

COLUMBIA, Mo. –
Sophomore Julian Wright scored a career-high 33 points to lead Kansas past Missouri, 92-74, Saturday afternoon from Mizzou Arena. The win marks Kansas’ first at the Tigers’ new home and gives the Jayhawks a season sweep of their Border Showdown rival.
In the 257th meeting between the rivals, Wright collected 12 rebounds in addition to his 33 points, for his fourth double-double of the season. The 12 rebounds ties a career high and the 33 points are the most scored by a Jayhawk in league action since Danny Manning dropped 37 at Missouri on Feb. 27, 1988. Wright’s previous career high was 23, which he logged earlier this season against Rhode Island.
Sophomore Brandon Rush added 21 points for the KU, on 8-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers. The Wooden Midseason All-American also had seven rebounds.
Junior Darnell Jackson and freshman Sherron Collins came off the bench to score 10 and 14 points, respectively for the Jayhawks. Jackson added six rebounds to his stat line, while Collins dished out a game-high seven assists. The Jayhawks outscored the Tigers, 58-26, in the paint and forced 16 MU turnovers.
KU took a 47-33 lead into halftime. Kansas endured an early 14-2 Missouri run and responded with a 26-4 streak of their own. The Jayhawks’ defense was largely responsible for that run, as they held Missouri to one field goal in their next 14 attemps. Wright led the Jayhawks with 15 points at the break while Rush chipped in 12.
The Jayhawks return to the hardwood next when they travel to Boulder, Colo., to square off with Colorado. The game is scheduled for a 8 p.m. tip-off and will be broadcast on the Jayhawk Television Network.
