Volleyball Announces Ray Bechard Summer Camps

Kansas volleyball announced Monday details for its 2007 Ray Bechard Summer Camps, which will be held June 2-8 and July 8-11 on the University of Kansas campus. The clinics will consist of three specialty day camps (setter, hitter and defensive specialist) and two overnight skills camps.

The purpose of the skills camp is to develop the fundamental skills of volleyball, as well as the strategies for offense and defense. The purpose of the one-day clinics is to give you an opportunity to train specifically in a position. Bechard, in his 10th season at KU, is the director of Kansas Volleyball Camps.

June 2 – Setter Camp
June 3 – Hitter Camp
June 4 – Defensive Specialist Camp
June 5-8 – Overnight Skills Camp #1
July 8-11 – Overnight Skills Camp #2

Skills Camp
The emphasis of the individual skills camp is to teach and develop the fundamental techniques of volleyball, as well as game strategies. Basic skills are stressed in drills while team play is incorporated to teach how all the fundamentals fit in the game. Campers will be evaluated in all skills and receive a camp notebook detailing the camp’s training methods. This camp is open to athletes entering grades 6 – 12 in the of Fall 2007. Campers will compete in the equivalent of 10 league and tournament matches. Each league team will be assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp.

Setting, Hitting & Defensive Specialist Clinics
We are extending an invitation for position-specific clinics. Athletes who are entering grades 6-12 in 2007 will receive instruction and training for one entire day. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one hour off for lunch. Please bring your own lunch.

Camp Policies & Information
Each camper will be partially covered by a group accident insurance policy. Please send a photo copy of your insurance card with the registration. An athletic trainer will be on duty at all times (please bring your own tape and other supplies if you need to be taped). Each applicant must have passed a physical examination by a medical doctor within the last year. Please send a photocopy of this year’s school physical with your registration. Allow 30 days for confirmations.

The cost of the one day clinics is $80. The cost for an overnight camper is $300, which includes four days of instruction, room, board, partial medical insurance, a t-shirt, and a camp notebook. Day Camper cost is $255 which includes four days of instruction, partial medical insurance, camp t-shirt, camp notebook, lunch and dinner each day (Breakfast and board not included). An $80 specialty camp payment, and/or a $100
deposit is due with the registration form (the full amount can be sent) and the balance is due the first day of camp at check-in. Note that $50 of the deposit/Specialty Camp fee is non refundable.The remainder is refundable up to 14 days before camp starts. No refunds will be given within 14 days of camp except in cases of serious injury. Refund requests must be made in writing and be confirmed by the attending physician. There will be no refunds after camp begins.
