Feb. 13, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior swimmer Brooke Brull was voted co-Big 12 Swimmer of the Week Wednesday afternoon for her performance against Conference rival Iowa State (2/8-9).

The senior captain set season-best times in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.64) and the 200-yard IM (2:05.57) in the final home meet of her career. She also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay team that also set a season-best time of 3:27.78 against Iowa State.

“It is a great surprise,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “She has had a really good season and she has been swimming really well in January and February to set herself up for a really good Big 12 Championship. She had a really good meet against Iowa State and is really excited for the Big 12 Championships.”

The honor is a first for the Lake Quivira, Kan., native and the first for any Jayhawk since Iuliia Kuzhil took home the award on Jan. 12, 2011.

The Jayhawks are currently taking a two week break from competition while they train and turn their focus to the Big 12 Championships, Feb. 27-March 2, in Austin, Texas.
