Kansas Swimming and Diving Breaks KU Record at Big 12 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – After day one of competition at the Big 12 Conference championships, the University of Kansas swimming and diving team shattered a KU record in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of senior captain Jenny Short, sophomore Danielle Herrmann, junior Lauren Bonfe and sophomore Maria Mayrovich raced to a quick third place finish with a time of 1:41.01 breaking the Kansas record of 1:42.02. Texas (1:38.36) and Texas A&M (1:38.68) finished first and second, respectively.
The Jayhawks sit comfortably in third-place (60 points) after Wednesday competition behind first-place Texas and Texas A&M, tied at 74 points, and riding only two points behind second-place Missouri (62 points). The Texas men lead Big 12 competition (80 points) with Texas A&M and Missouri tied in second (66 points).
In other Wednesday competition, the Jayhawks placed fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:25.07). Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri and Nebraska rounded out the top four in the event.
The Jayhawks will continue day two of competition in College Station Thursday morning at 10 a.m., finishing the day with finals at 6 p.m.
