LAWRENCE, Kan. –The 2012 Kansas Volleyball Camp dates were released by head coach Ray Bechard on Monday morning.

For individuals, KU will host position clinics for hitters (July 7) and defensive specialists/setters (July 8). The program will also host two sessions of skills camps, the first on June 3-5 and the second from July 20-22. Team camps will also be offered twice on July 9-11 and July 12-14.

“Camps are a great way for Kansas volleyball, both players and coaches, to connect with the community of players in our area,” Bechard said. “We can welcome them to our campus and spend time with them and hopefully promote not only the individual’s improvement, but the overall improvement of volleyball in the area.”

Skills Camps
The emphasis of the individual overnight skills camp is to teach and develop the fundamental techniques of volleyball, as well as game strategies. Basic skills are stressed in drills, while team play is incorporated to teach how all the fundamentals fit in the game.

Campers will be evaluated in all skills and receive a camp notebook detailing the camp’s training methods. This camp is open to athletes entering grades 6-12 in the of Fall 2012. Campers will compete in the equivalent of 10 league and tournament matches. Each league team will be assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp.

Campers stay overnight in Naismith Hall, a dorm located on campus just 100 yards from HFAC. Athletes are allowed to pick their own roommates.

Team Camps
The Jayhawk Volleyball Team Camp is designed to provide varsity and junior varsity high school teams with the opportunity to train and compete under the direction and guidance of an outstanding coaching staff.

The daily schedule will include two skills sessions focusing on position training and transition work. Competitive league play will be the emphasis at each evening session. If a high school coach is unable to attend with their team, a veteran coach from our camp staff will be assigned to the team.

Bill Cordes, a motivational speaker who has worked with the KU Volleyball team for many years, will also be presenting a valuable team building activity.
