CHICAGO –

Kansas guard Travis Releford’s windmill dunk against UMKC, Jan. 5, was selected as a 2011 Dunk of the Year finalist, announced Monday by Chicago-based sports television production and event marketing company Intersport.

In the national competition determined by fan voting on Facebook, Releford landed an impressive 83 percent of the vote in week five to overcome slams by Minnesota’s Rodney Williams (7 percent), St. John’s Paris Horne (5 percent) and Georgetown’s Hollis Thompson (5 percent).

Releford’s dunk will join seven others in the final round of voting, which will begin March 7. The 2011 winning dunk will be revealed in “Dunks of the Year”, a one-hour television special on CBS, airing April 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET, that will highlight the biggest dunks and dunkers of the college basketball season.

Starting March 7, fans can support Releford by visiting the Dunks of the Year fan page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/dunksoftheyear), voting once a day, and sharing their vote with their Facebook friends.

Releford joins the following dunkers in the Dunk of the Year Finals: Week one’s Shay Shine (High Point), week two’s Jermaine Mallettt (Missouri State), week three’s Jared Cunningham (Oregon State) and week four’s Terrence Jones (Kentucky).
