Kansas‘ Loss at IowaState…
–Makes the all-times series 44-28 in favor of Kansas.
–Gives ISU its sixth-straight win versus KU in Ames.
–Drops Kansas to 3-4 in Big 12 Conference road games this season.
–Gives coach Bonnie Henrickson a 6-11 record against IowaState, a 134-116 mark at Kansas and a career record of 292-178.
–Makes Kansas 731-512 all-time, including 98-154 in Big 12 play.
Team Notes
—Kansas starters (career starts): G Angel Goodrich (67), G Natalie Knight (25), G Monica Engelman (68), F Aishah Sutherland (76) and F Chelsea Gardner (1).
–KU employed each of its available nine players during the game for a minimum of four minutes, as Kansas was forced to play without its leading scorer, junior F Carolyn Davis, who suffered a season-ending knee injury at KansasState on Sunday, Feb. 12.
–The Jayhawks blocked seven of the Cyclones’ shots;five of which occurred in the first 20 minutes of the game, with Sutherland making four of those.
–KU led at the half by two points (23-21) for the 19th game this season, and is now 16-3 when up on its opponent after the first 20 minutes.
–Kansas held IowaState to two made three-pointers (2-10) in the first stanza. The Cyclones lead the Big 12 Conference in three-point field goals made per game, averaging 7.1 per outing (prior to tonight’s game). ISU finished the game 7-of-18 (38.9%) from behind the arc.
Individual Notes
–Senior F Aishah Sutherland was the dominant player for Kansas in the first half, scoring 12 points, pulling down four total rebounds (one offensive, three defensive) and blocking four IowaState shots.
–Sutherland swatted a team-high four blocks in the contest to lead the Jayhawks in that category, three of which came in the first 9:05 of the contest in Hilton Coliseum. For the season, the Perris, Calif., native has four games with three or more blocks and has led the team in blocks in 15-of-25 games.
–Overall on the night, Sutherland led the Jayhawks in both points (19) and rebounds (nine), topping the categories for the fifth and 15th times this season, respectively. Her 19 tallies led all scorers.
–Junior G Angel Goodrich finished with double-figure points for the seventh time in the last eight games as she scored 10. Goodrich scored the majority of her points in the second half, as she had just three points at the intermission. She has led the team in scoring in three of the last five games.
–Goodrich and Sutherland were the only two double-figure scorers for KU. The pair’s combined 29 tallies comprised 61.7% of Kansas’ total 47 points.
–Freshman F Chelsea Gardner, 6-3 from DeSoto, Texas, made her first start in the Crimson and Blue in place of junior F and All-America candidate Carolyn Davis, who suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday at Kansas State.
–Gardner scored eight points for her highest output in Big 12 Conference play. She did so in a personal-high 29 minutes of floor time.
–Freshman G Natalie Knight dished out three assists, her eighth game of the season with three or more dimes in a game.
