Kansas Trio Invited To NFL Combine

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas football players Dezmon Briscoe, Kerry Meier and Darrell Stuckey have been invited to participate in the annual NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Ind. Feb. 24-March 2.

Both Meier and Stuckey, along with former KU quarterback Todd Reesing, competed in the East-West Shrine Bowl in January. Meier did not record any statistics, while Stuckey recorded a game-high tying seven tackles.

Dezmon Briscoe returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown at Texas.

Briscoe, a 6-3, 202-pound wide receiver from Dallas, Texas, declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season in 2009. After earning Sporting News All-America Third Team honors and All-Big 12 First-Team honors by the league coaches and Associated Press, he opted to skip his senior year and declare for the draft.

Last year Briscoe ranked fifth in the NCAA in receiving yards per game (121.55) and was ninth in receptions per game (7.64). He also ranked 13^th in all-purpose yards (162.55). On the season he caught 84 passes for 1,337 yards and nine touchdowns.

In his final game in a Kansas uniform he pulled in 14 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns against Missouri. School records Briscoe set in 2009 included career receiving yards (3,240), career 100-yard receiving games (14), season 100-yard receiving games (seven), career touchdown receptions (31) and season all-purpose yardage (1,788).

Meier was a record-setting wide receiver for KU after starting at quarterback his freshman season. Meier also served as the holder on place kicks and was the backup punter.

Meier, a 6-3, 211-pounder from Pittsburg, Kan. was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2009. He ranked fourth in the NCAA with 8.50 receptions per game and was 26^th in receiving yards per game (82.08). He set a school record with 102 receptions, which he turned into 985 yards and eight touchdowns.

Meier posted five 100-yard games and five 10-plus reception games last year for Kansas. He established school records for career receptions (226), season receptions (102 in 2009) and game receptions (16 vs. Iowa State in 2009). Some of his other KU career rankings include second in receiving yards (2,309), second in 100-yard receiving games (10) and second in touchdown receptions (18).

As the starting quarterback for eight games as a freshman in 2006, Meier completed 104 of 184 passes for 1,193 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Stuckey, a 6-1, 205-pound safety from Kansas City, Kan. was a national award winner and watch list selection for a number of honors for on and off the field excellence as a senior.

Darrell Stuckey recorded his eighth career interception against Colorado.

Stuckey was one of 11 players named to the AFCA Good Works Team and was a Senior CLASS Award finalist, while being tabbed a Thorpe Award semifinalist and a Lott Award quarterfinalist. He was on watch lists for the Bednarik and Nagurski awards.

He was named an All-Big 12 First Team selection by the Associated Press, second team by the Kansas City Star and honorable mention by the league coaches this past season. As a junior he was an All-Big 12 First Team pick by the Conference.

In 2009 Stuckey became the first non-linebacker to lead the Jayhawks in season tackles since 2000 as he registered 93 stops. His 295 career tackles were the second most by a Jayhawk defensive back in school history. He also recorded eight career interceptions.

In 2008 four Jayhawks were selected in the NFL draft, including first-round selection Aqib Talib, fourth-round picks Anthony Collins and Derek Fine, and sixth-round choice Marcus Henry. However, no KU players were picked last year.
