Jayhawks Tied for Ninth After Second Round at Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Kansas junior Meghan Potee continued to lead the Jayhawks after the second round of the inaugural Florida State Match-Up Women’s Golf Tournament at SouthWood Golf Club here Saturday. Potee sits tied for 20th individually with a two-round 151 (+7) on the par-72 course. Potee led KU with a 75 in the opening round of the event on Friday and shot a 76 Saturday.

As a team, Kansas moved up one spot from Friday and is tied with Michigan with a two-round 616, which is +40 over par, in the 12-team field. The Jayhawks shot a 310 on Friday and improved four shots to a 306 on Saturday. Big 12 Conference member Oklahoma improved 14 strokes from round one (298) to round two (294) and leads the event with a 582 (+6). Host Florida State is second at 588 (+12).

The unique format of the tournament has each of the 12 participating teams paired with another team and playing with that common opponent over the first two days of the event. Georgia and Oklahoma are in first place in the match-up standings with a two-team total of 730 after two rounds. The Florida State/Texas A&M pairing is second at 735, while Kansas and Furman remained in fourth place with a two-round total of 748, three strokes behind third-place Tennessee/UTSA (745).

Laura Wearn of Furman shot a one-under par 71 and moved into a tie for first with first-round leader Rocio Sanchez Lobato of Georgia at 140 (-4). Florida State’s Jessica Negron is in third with a 142 (-2).

Kansas junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn shot the low round for the Jayhawks on Saturday with a two-over 74 and improved her score by six strokes from Friday’s 80. Kawinpakorn is at a plus-10 for event at 154. Jayhawk freshman Thanuttra Boonraksasat and sophomore Michelle Woods are tied for 37th place at 157 (+13), while sophomore Gabby DiMarco rounds out the KU scorers with a two-round 159 (+15) which has her in 54th place in the 64-golfer field. DiMarco fired at five-over 77 which was a five-stroke improvement from her 82 on Friday.

The event winner (both team and individual) will be determined in the normal way with the team and individual at the top of the leaderboards after three rounds being crowned the tournament champions. The third and final round will be Sunday.
