KU Football Helmets And Jerseys Tweaked For 2010

Feb. 17, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – As a new era of Kansas football begins under the direction of recently hired head coach Turner Gill, fans will notice slight modifications in the Jayhawks’ appearance this fall.

Players’ last names will not be placed on the backs of the jerseys. Instead a Jayhawk logo will go in the center of the upper portion of the back of the uniforms.

“The reasoning behind not having the individual’s names is to support what we are expecting from our team and program,” Gill said. “Our program is about team. We are representing the University of Kansas. You will see that name on the front of our jerseys.

The last time players’ names were not placed on the back of KU’s jerseys was 1981.

In addition, the blue Kansas helmets will no longer have a red stripe running down the middle. The helmets will still sport the KU logo on the side.
