Swimming and Diving To Travel to Big 12 Championships

Feb. 19, 2006

The University of Kansas swimming and diving team will compete in the Big 12 Conference Swimming and Diving Championship, Feb. 22-25, in Columbia, Mo. The four-day meet will consist of morning preliminary sessions beginning at 10 a.m. each day, followed by final sessions in the evenings at 6 p.m. The meet will also include one-meter, three-meter and platform diving competitions.

The Jayhawks finished the regular season schedule with an 8-2 overall record in dual meets, including a 3-0 record in Big 12 duals. Kansas also finished third at the Minnesota Invite, Nov. 18-20, and finished fourth at the Big 12 Relays, Oct. 14. The team will look to improve on last season’s fourth place finish.

“We’re very excited about the upcoming Big 12 Championships for a couple reasons. First, we have had an outstanding season of preparation in both training and racing. Our swimmers and divers are ready for a great Championship meet. Second, the Championship is just down the road in Columbia,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “The athletes really like competing at the facility and it is a very easy trip. Everyone is ready to achieve new best times/scores and qualify for events like the NCAA Championships and USA Nationals.”
