Postgame Quotes vs. TCU (Game 1)

Feb. 19, 2011

Recap

Kansas senior pitcher Nolan Mansfield

On his first appearance on the mound:

“It was nerve-wracking. I even went out for a false appearance (went to the mound before being called in), but that kind of got out the nerves. After that I felt great when I got out on the mound.”

On pitching against the No. 1 team in the country:

“Not anything bigger, I can imagine, than the stage I was on out there tonight. Obviously I wish we could have been ahead and gone out there with the lead, but it still felt great to get out there and get the first game out of the way.”

On what the Jayhawks have to do differently:

“I think we had great energy, I’m not nervous about tomorrow we are going to come out even stronger so we should bounce back from this one.”

Kansas sophomore third baseman Jake Marasco

On TCU pitcher Matt Purke:

“He’s a very talented pitcher, probably a top-five overall pick. But Skip (Head Coach Ritch Price) always says our conference prepares us to face pitchers like that,”

On the team’s offensive struggles:

“We put some really good swings on balls that were just at guys.”

On what the team has to do to bounce back:

“Today is done. Coach Price is a firm believer that we have to wash it out of our heads and move on to Saturday. We have to be better tomorrow than we were today and better on Sunday than we are on Saturday.”
