Kansas wraps up spring season opener in sixth

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas freshman Grace Thiry led the Jayhawks to a sixth place finish at the fourth annual Qdoba Collegiate Championships at Don Shula Golf Club, Tuesday. Thiry fired a two-over-par 74 in the third round to finish in a tie for seventh place in the final individual standings with a final score of 224.

Combined, the Jayhakws put together a final round 300, their best of the tournament, to finish sixth overall with a three-day total of 921. Led by individual champion, Abby Bools (75-72-71–218), East Carolina maintained its first-place standing in the team leaderboards after Monday’s second round to claim tournament honors with a final score of 887, 14 strokes ahead of second place Lousiville.

Kansas sophomore Emily Powers finished tied for 24th with a 229. Senior Annie Giangrosso and freshman Meghna Bal each finished with a score of 234 after carding final-rounds scores of 76 and 74, respectively to tie for 34th place. Sophomore Meghan Gockel placed in a tie for 52nd with a 242, while unattached sophomore Camilla Svensson finished 58th with a 33-over 249.

Kansas will next be in action as they continue its spring season in Fresno, Calif., where the Jayhawks will compete in the Fresno State Invitational. Feb. 25-26.
