Jayhawks Go One Match Shy of Sweep in 6-1 Win Over Little Rock

Kansas tennis won in convincing fashion against Arkansas-Little Rock Sunday morning at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, nearly sweeping the Trojans to snap a three-match losing streak. Kansas downed the Trojans 6-1, seeing wins from nearly every player.
KU opened up to a quick 1-0 lead with a doubles sweep. Ekaterina Morozova and Dylan Windom highlighted the sweep with a shutout of Viktorya Plyuta and Nathalia Garay in the No. 1 singles match.
Morozova won the No. 1 singles match for the second straight day, downing Yana Kakovkina 6-4, 6-2. Erin Wilbert then put KU ahead 3-0 with a straight-set win over Garay. Wilbert never trailed as she won the fifth singles match 6-2, 6-0.
Little Rock’s Rebecca Van Den Houte put up a point for the Trojans when she squeaked out a victory over Dylan Windom in the fourth spot, but Paulina Los clinched the match for the Jayhawks with a win over Plyuta in the third match. Los took the momentum after back and forth first set with a 4-2 win in the tiebreak and rode the momentum to a 6-4 victory.
While Monica Pezzotti continued her nearly three-hour battle with Veronique Luksich in the No. 2 match, Victoria Khanevskaya made quick work of Andrea Steed-Rosen in the No. 6 contest, blanking her 6-0, 6-0.
Pezzotti finished off a stellar day for the Jayhawks with a 7-5,6-2 defeat of Luksich.
Kansas moved to 2-3 on the season, while UALR is now 2-5. The Jayhawks will look to build their first winning streak of the season Friday afternoon, when the seven-match home stand continues with UT-Arlington. The match will begin at 2 p.m., at the Jayhawk Tennis Facility.
