KU Beats Baylor, 76-61, For 10th Straight Win

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Behind a career-high 20 points from freshman Julian Wright, the University of Kansas defeated Baylor (2-11), 76-61, Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse. The win was the Jayhawks’ 10th in a row and improved their record to 20-6 overall and 11-2 in the Big 12.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Wright converted 10-of-11 field goal attempts, pulled down five rebounds and blocked two shots in 22 minutes of action. Freshman Brandon Rush (11), and sophomores Darnell Jackson (11) and C.J. Giles (10) rounded out KU players in double-digits.

After Baylor jumped out to a 6-2 lead, Kansas went on a 14-3 run to take early control of the game. During the run, KU recorded six assists on its six field goals.

The Jayhawks took a 33-25 lead into halftime and outscored Baylor 43-36 in the second stanza. Baylor made 9-of-13 3-point attempts in the second half to stay close. KU out-rebounded Baylor 38-28 during the game and scored 32 points in the paint.

Giles recorded three of KU’s nine blocked shots. Rush pulled down five rebounds to go with his four steals, three assists and two blocks. Sophomore guard Russell Robinson dropped a career-high nine dimes.

Kansas will travel to Austin, Texas, to face the Longhorns on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN at 8 p.m.
