Cherry To Be Featured on Big 12 Showcase

Feb. 22, 2006

Tiffany Cherry, a member of the University of Kansas women’s track and field team, will be featured on this week’s edition of the Big 12 Showcase on FSN. The senior out of Vernon, Texas, will be featured as a Chick Fil-A Community Champion, an honor given to student-athletes of Big 12 Institutions for their academic standards, work in the community and sportsmanship. She joins baseball player Matt Baty and golfer Chelsey Pryor as the other KU student-athletes who have been honored with the same award.

Cherry currently volunteers as a big sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as well as spending time helping as a teacher’s assistant at a local elementary school. Additionally, she has spent the last two years volunteering as a station leader at the Hawks, Cops and Kids Day as well as the Kansas Kids Fitness Day, programs that promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle to children. The history major has been named a Jayhawk Scholar the past three years and serves as a team representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

The show is scheduled to air Friday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. on FSN Midwest. Re-airings can be caught on Fox College Sports (Central) at 5:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.
