Junior pitcher Valerie George earns the win to help <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas improve to 9-3 overall, while George is now 3-1 from the circle. TexasState drops to 5-7.

George finished the last 4.0 innings for starter Sarah Vertelka and struckout four batters and allowing the Bobcats just one hit.

An error by Kansas in the bottom of the second inning proved costly for the Jayhawks as two TexasState runners reached home plate after a wide throw to first.

The Bobcats’ lead was shortlived though as Jobe tallied a home run in KU’s next at-bat to bring in a pair of runs and tie the game at 2-2.

Junior Stevie Crisosto helped give the Jayhawks their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth. After reaching on a fielder’s choice and advancing Brittany Hile to third in the process, Crisosto rounded first, distracting TexasState to allow Hile to sneak across home plate.

Kansas added another run in the top of the fifth to add a two-run cushion to its lead. Elle Pottorf was hit by pitch with bases loaded to allow Betsy Wilson, who had also reached after being hit with a pitch, to score.

The Jayhawks will play again today against Centenary at approximately 1:30 p.m. Live stats available at http://uhcougars.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl/spec-rel/marriott-hou-classic-08.html.
