Powers Paces Jayhawks On Second Day Of Women's Golf

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Emily Powers fired a one-over par 73 to lead the Kansas women’s golf team on a difficult second day at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Monday.
The Jayhawks dropped 11 shots from their opening round 303, as Powers was the only KU player to break 80 on Monday. On Sunday all five Jayhawks shot 79 or better.
Powers’ one-over par round tied for the ninth-best round of the day as scores soared on Tuesday. Powers is tied for 17th with a 149 total. Grace Thiry and Jennifer Clark chipped in with rounds of 80, while Meghan Gockel’s 81 capped the team’s scoring in the second round.
KU stands in 14th place in the 33-team tournament after shooting a second-day 314. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday.
The tournament is the first spring event for the Jayhawks, who were in a tie for ninth place after Monday’s round.
