LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas women’s basketball team closed out the 2005 home schedule with a 70-60 loss to Baylor, Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. It was the final home game for KU seniors Aquanita Burras and Blair Waltz.

Burras took advantage of her last home appearance, as she tied a career-high with 24 points on 9-of-15 from the field. Burras also added six rebounds. Junior Erica Hallman scored 21 points for KU.

Junior Crystal Kemp added seven points and five rebounds in the loss.

“I was proud of our team for answering the way we did tonight,” Kansas head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “We gave Baylor to many uncontested shots and we just didn’t have enough to finish this game.”

“Aquanita (Burras) was aggressive and gave a tremendous effort tonight,” Henrickson added. “We are all very proud of her. We will learn from this loss and build on it for Kansas State and Iowa State.”

Baylor had three players in double-figures, led by the 20 points of senior Steffanie Blackmon. Junior Sophia Young added 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while junior Chameka Scott chipped in with 14 points for the Lady Bears.

The Jayhawks (12-13, 5-9 Big 12) will round out the 2005 regular season with two road games. First up, KU will travel to play in-state rival Kansas State Saturday in Manhattan. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
