Jayhawk Softball Takes Best Start in Program History to UNC-Greensboro

After earning 10 straight wins to open the season, the Kansas softball team will challenge its best start in program history when the Jayhawks travel to the UNCG Spartan Classic Feb. 25-27 in Greensboro, N.C. KU will take on Minnesota (3-6), Morehead State (3-6) and UNC-Greensboro (6-4) during the three-day tournament.

The Jayhawk offense has gotten off to an explosive start hitting 20 home runs through its first 10 contests. As a team, KU is hitting .331 and out-scoring opponents 85-28. Kansas’ high-powered hitting is led by a trio of underclassmen who are hitting .400 or better. Sophomore Alex Jones is tops on the team with a .419 batting average. Freshman Ashley Newman, who leads the Big 12 with seven stolen bases, follows with a .414 average and sophomore Maggie Hull is hitting .400 and is ranked in the top 10 of the Big 12 in runs scored, doubles and RBIs.

The KU bullpen is led by senior Allie Clark, who is second in the conference with five wins. Kansas has also received quality time in the circle from freshman Kristin Martinez. Martinez owns a team-best 1.91 ERA.
