Feb. 24, 2007

STILLWATER, Okla. — The University of Kansas tennis team dropped its first of three straight road duals, 6-1, to No. 41 Oklahoma State on Saturday. The setback drops the Jayhawks to 2-8, 0-2, while OSU improved to 4-0, 1-0.

KU’s only point of the day came from sophomore Yuliana Svistun in the No. 5 singles position, where she defeated OSU’s Marta Tsivka, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5). The win marked the Ufa, Russia, native’s fifth straight.

Kansas also got a win in doubles play from its top duo of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath, 8-3, over Oklahoma State’s Tkachenko and Simmons. The victory improved the tandem’s record to an impressive 8-2 this spring.

Despite the lopsided score, the Jayhawks competed well on Saturday, with Horvath and freshman Kunigunda Dorn taking their singles contests to three sets.

KU will continue its road swing when it travels on Iowa on March 2 and Iowa State on March. 3
