Feb. 24, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track and field has added another member to its 2009 signing class, head coach Stanley Redwine announced. Corey Shank, a pole vaulter from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Northrop High School), will join the Jayhawks in the fall.

Shank brings the KU signing class total to nine, including athletes that joined for the spring semester. He is the son of Bob Shank, who is also his high school coach. The younger Shank holds a personal best of 17 feet in the pole vault and is his high school’s top returning pole vaulter.

Shank joins Tara Grosserode, Kathryn Lupton, Rebecca Neville, Taylor Washington and Michael Flores as Jayhawks joining the team this fall.

The three Jayhawks already on campus and competing are Brian Bishop, a junior transfer from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, freshman Sasha Cunningham from Clarendon, Jamaica, and freshman Micah Wesley from Topeka, Kan.

Kansas track and field is set to compete at the Big 12 Indoor Championships this weekend, Feb. 27-28.
