Kuzhil Leads Team to Third Place Finish

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –

Junior Iuliia Kuzhil led her 200-yard medley relay team to a third-place finish and a NCAA national tournament qualification in the first day of the Big 12 Championships on Wednesday in College Station, Texas. Kuzhil was joined by junior Joy Bunting, sophomore Abigail Anderson and junior Amanda Maez on the 200-yard medley relay team. The team recorded a time of 1:39.35, the fastest race this season.

In the 800 free relay finals, KU’s team of freshmen Monica Johannssen and Brooke Brull, sophomore Shannon Garlie and senior Emily Lanteigne swam to a fourth place finish. The team’s 7:14.81 finish also marks its fastest time this season.

At the conclusion of Day one, Texas and Texas A&M lead the way with 74 points, Kansas and Missouri are tied at third place with 62 points, Iowa State is in fifth with 54 points and Nebraska is in sixth with 28 points.

“I thought we had a great start to the meet,” said Head Coach Clark Campbell. “Our medley relay really started us off well. Everyone got a chance to race and there was a lot of good swimming today.”
