AUSTIN, Texas –

The University of Kansas fell to Texas, 80-55 on Saturday at the Erwin Center in Austin. The loss snapped KU’s 10-game winning streak and dropped the Jayhawks to 20-7 overall and 11-3 in the Big 12.

Kansas jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on back-to-back buckets by freshman Julian Wright. Texas answered with a 16-6 run, but the Jayhawks battled back and took their last lead, 17-16 at the 10:04 mark. Texas went 6-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first half and took a 36-27 halftime lead.

Texas opened the second half on a 20-8 run and would lead by as many as 28 with its 61 percent shooting in the second stanza. UT’s 55.1 percent field goal percentage for the game was the most by a Jayhawk opponent this season.

Kansas was led by Wright who poured in 18 points, while freshman Mario Chalmers had 10 points to go with five steals and Russell Robinson added nine points and eight assists.

The Jayhawks will honor its four seniors, Christian Moody, Stephen Vinson, Jeff Hawkins and Moulaye Niang on Senior Night, Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in Lawrence against Colorado. The game will also mark the last home broadcast for legendary radio commentator Max Falkenstien, who is retiring after 60 years with the Jayhawks.
