Stats

Columbia, Mo. –

Kansas swimming and diving broke two school records in its two events at the Big 12 Championships, Wednesday night in Columbia, Mo. The Jayhawk 200 yard medley relay touched the wall in a time of 1:38.45, smashing the previous school record by 1.99 seconds.

As was the case with the Big 12 Relays earlier in the season, Kansas finds itself tied with Missouri in third place after the first two events with 62 points. Texas leads the competition with 80 points while Texas A&M finds itself in second place with 68 points. Iowa State and Nebraska are tied in fifth place with 54 points.

KU’s 200 yard medley relay team was comprised of seniors Danielle Herrmann and Maria Mayrovich, sophomore Iuliia Kuzhil and freshman Abigail Anderson. The time of 1:38.45 broke the school record that was set one year ago, and it was nearly four seconds faster than the fastest time Kansas has recorded this season. KU nearly snatched second-place from Texas A&M, falling to the Aggies by only 0.11 seconds.

The second event of the night was the 800 yard freestyle relay and Kansas placed fourth in a time of 7:13.86, but that time was four seconds faster than the school record that was set in 2005. The record-breaking squad included senior Anne Liggett, juniors Emily Lanteigne and Erin Goetz, and freshman Shannon Garlie.
